Tuesday morning, I noticed that some drive by gas spotter said he or she saw regular unleaded for $3.29 a gallon at a Conoco station at Parker and Arapahoe. It was posted at 9:45am the day before on www.denvergasprices.com. $3.29 a gallon? Man, if that is true, $3.29 for regular is a BIG bargain. And, it must be true. It is on the internet, right? ![]() Still, my skeptical side made me check a couple other “LOWEST GAS PRICES” websites. Both www.automotive.com and www.autos.msn.com said it was $3.59 a gallon. www.gasprices.mapquest.com had its head in the sand. It did not even know the gas station was there. Well, I took these pictures in the drizzle from the front seat of my car that morning. As you can see, a gallon of regular at this particular station was not $3.29 or $3.59. The price at this particular Conoco at Parker and Arapahoe cost $3.69 a gallon today, 10 to 40 cents more than the "current" prices posted on three different “LOWEST GAS PRICES” websites. You know what the worst thing is? I wasted a gallon of gas driving over there to find out the truth. This is not an indictment against Conoco. Their prices are just as good (or bad) as most other zippy mart gas places in town. Nope, this is just a word to the wise. If you are considering using one of those “LOWEST PRICES” websites to search for cheap gas. The word to the wise is… Don’t.
