Summer in Colorado is the busy season for road crews and there are several projects that could trip you up and slow you down this week. Two repaving projects are in full swing on I-25 near downtown. Each night (Sunday thru Thursday), crews close lanes and set up cones as they continue to repave the highway, between Santa Fe and 6th Ave. and from Speer to Park Ave. Down on the south side of town this week, a late night project will cause some ramp closures at I-25 and 470. CDOT is replacing some of those huge highway signs. This Wednesday night (6/18) into Thursday morning (6/19), the ramps from eastbound C-470 and westbound E-470 to southbound I-25 will be closed. Motorists will be detoured via northbound I-25 to Dry Creek Rd. where they can then return to southbound. The next night, the ramp from southbound I-25 to C-470 and E-470 will be closed. Motorists will be detoured via southbound I-25 to Lincoln Ave. where they can return to northbound I-25 and back to the E-470 and C-470 ramps. Both nights, the work starts at midnight and should be finished by 5:30am. “Crooked as a dog’s hind leg” One of my granddad’s favorite sayings is a great way to describe highway 6 and 119 as it snakes through Clear Creek Canyon and up toward the casinos in Blackhawk and Central City. This week, CDOT’s big bulldozers will start to make the drive to the gambling towns a little safer.
At first, crews are doing some preliminary work on 119, about a mile north of the US 6/Highway 119 junction. The highway will be down to one lane south of Blackhawk as they build a paved detour around the site. Then in July, they will blast part of the mountain away so they can take out a curve and straighten the highway. Project hours are 4 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday and I will warn you before the blasting starts next month. |

Wouldn’t it be nice not to have to stop and pay tolls on E-470? Well, some day you might not have to…stop, that is. There is talk about removing the tollbooths on E-470. No more searching for quarters. No more... Read More

I love beer....especially Colorado's craft beers. We used to call them microbrews...but, ask Brewers Association Prez Charlie Papazian. He will tell you, many of our micro breweries are not so micro anymore. So, we call them craft beers... Read More
