Bikers Urged to Make the MOST Out Of It

April 17, 8:28 AM
by John Morrissey, Denver Traffic Examiner

KHOW's Peter Boyles, a long time rider, likes CDOT's MOST campaign.

Look Twice!

If you buy booze in Colorado, you gotta show your license. Ditto for cigarettes. Want a gun? You gotta pass a background check.

But in Colorado, you can buy a motorcycle and nobody will ask to see the motorcycle endorsement on your license.

You do not even have to take a safety course to ride a motorcycle in Colorado. Just pass a short written test, pay a fee, and promise to ride close to someone who has taken a state certified safety course and you are legal.

Do you know which age group is most likely to die on a motorcycle?

Well, do not blame the young-uns.

In the last 5 years, 402 people have died in motorcycle accidents in Colorado.

88% of them were men….and 44% were over 45.
CDOT stats
The motorcycle season in Colorado runs from spring thru fall, but many bikers will tell you they ride all year. No matter what time of year, when things go wrong on a motorcycle, there is no place to hide. 90 people were killed in motorcycle accidents last year. 10 riders have died already this year. The deadliest drive for motorcyclists is right here along the Front Range.

C-DOT thinks this is MOST ridiculous.

“Live to Ride” is a new program they are promoting. They are urging every rider to take Motorcycle Operator Safety Training….MOST, for short.

The message is simple.

Live longer, ride further and take a safety class.
