This time next week, you will begin to see workers building a bridge over Kipling at 13th Avenue. They are first of an army of crews that will give us a brand new light rail line.
The West Corridor project will take 5 years and when the crews put away their shovels, light rail trains will zip from downtown, through Lakewood and out to Golden and back on a new 12 mile line. This is all part of the much bigger FasTracks project we voted on back in 2004.
When FasTracks finally finishes in 2017, 120 miles of tracks for light rail and commuter trains will spider out from Union Station along with a bunch of other improvements to the area's mass transit system.
The cost?
4.7 billion dollars. Yup, that's billion with a "B."
