It's official.  Viral strain H1N1 also known as the Swine flu has been confirmed in our islands.  The three cases: husband and wife returning from a Texas vacation and a school aged child who went to see relatives in the mainland have tested positive.  The virus has also been linked to a student at the University of Hawai'i Manoa campus.  Despite this fact, the campus and it's dorms will remain open.

Because this sickness is spread through droplets, the State Department of Health is encouraging people to contain their sneezes and coughs in a tissue, shirt, or even in the crooks of their arms to avoid spreading the infectious disease which has claimed several lives in Mexico.

Many websites list maps and information on how to stop the spread of this illness, but the best advice comes from the CDC which states, "stay at home if you are sick."

For more info: log onto the CDC's website for information on swine flu, or check out the Hawai'i State Department of Health for additional info and updates locally.
