Fujiya Hawaii's Habutai Mochi stuffed with azuki beans.

Everyone who lives on O'ahu is familiar with Fujiya mochi.  These Japanese treats are normally found near cash registers and usually cost a pretty penny.  But here's a little secret: a tray of six Habutai mochi costs less than half the price of the supermarket tray at their retail store.  And the mochi is fuller.

Another great thing this store offers is variety.  Here you can get mochi filled with peanut butter, chocolate and azuki beans, or "Maui style" manju with white or azuki beans, or peanut butter.  There are many other flavors to choose from, these are just my favorites.

My husband and I found this store by mistake while passing through town; there are no flashy signs to point it out and although it's on the main street and on a corner, it's tucked away so don't drive by it too fast, or you're liable to miss it.

Find them at: 454 Waiakamilo Road in Honolulu.  Stop by or call them at 845-2921 to place a large order.
