With the holiday season soon to be upon us, Long Island’s theaters are planning great performances of both classic holiday tales and original holiday themed shows. Here’s some of what’s to come:

The Gateway Playhouse

Bellport’s Gateway Playhouse serves up three holiday shows this season, starting with its Children’s Theater production of Mooseltoe, followed by the playhouse’s holiday ice spectacular and closing with Rio Cirque Le Masque entertaining audiences to ring in the New Year. Here’s the low down:

Mooseltoe

From Saturday, November 21st through Saturday, November 28th, the Gateway presents its annual stage production of Mooseltoe, the story of a moose and his dream of flying with Santa and his reindeer. The “whimsical” show features the voices of Al Roker, John Cullum, and Carole Shelley and is great for children of any age. See Gateway’s website for show times, ticket information, a video preview and more.

A Holiday Spectacular

The Gateway presents its annual holiday ice show from December 18th through the 22nd. Times and prices vary. See the website for details.

Note: Both Cirque Le Masque - Rio and the Holiday Spectacular performances are being held at the Patchogue Theater.

Rio Cirque Le Masque

The ever popular Cirque Le Masque brings its unique combination of amazing acrobatics, theater technology and pure entertainment to the Gateway for six shows beginning New Year’s Eve and finishing on January 2nd. See the Gateway website for more information.

Airport Playhouse

Coming November 27 – December 20, the Airport Playhouse, located at 218 Knickerbocker Avenue in Bohemia puts on its annual Holiday Extravaganza. The holiday-themed tribute show is a potpourri of music, dance and plenty of laughter. For tickets and more information, please see the theater’s website at http://www.airportplayhouse.com/.

Theater Three

Theater Three of Port Jefferson presents its holiday showing of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol with performances scattered throughout the calendar from Friday, November 13th through Sunday, December 27th. See the theater’s website below for details.

Creative Ministries Performing Arts Center

This little theater located on Montauk Highway in Oakdale is offering up Frosty the Snowman at its Children’s Theater various dates in December. Tickets are only $9. The theater rings in the New Year with a gala celebration on New Year’s Eve, beginning at 9PM with cabaret performances by some of Long Island’s most talented performers. Tickets for this event are $60 if purchased before December 15th and $70 thereafter, and include hors d’oeuvres , wine and beer, a buffet dinner catered by Saviano’s Restaurant, and dessert and coffee. A satellite feed of the festivities in Times Square will be shown. See the Creative Ministries website for more.
