One of the most common questions I get asked is: "What do I eat or drink after exercise?"  The answer depends on the exercise duration, intensity, personal preference and dietary restrictions.  For exercise sessions lasting longer than 60 minutes, I recommend Endurox R4 as a post recovery drink.  Its main features are:

  • 4:1 Carbohydrate:Protein ratio, which is ideal for replenishing energy stores (aka glycogen)
  • Comes in a powder form (to be mixed with water) so that it travels well, especially for long distance races or backpacking trips
  • 5 different flavors, ranging from Chocolate to Tangy Lime (my favorite is the Fruit Punch)
  • Compared to some high protein recovery drinks and shakes, its relatively low in calories (approx. 270 cal/serving)
  • Claims to reduce post-exercise muscle damage/soreness (for me, I DO feel less sore using Endurox)
  • Note: if you are sensitive, allergic, or intolerant to gluten, this product is not for you as it contains whey

As with most things, you get what you pay for, its about $1.96/serving, but for me, that is a small price to pay to be able to feel fresh for my next workout.  You can order online or find a retailer near you. For extra savings, ask your nearest retailer if they have a punch card or customer loyalty program.

Happy training!
