Jen's Klean Kanteen

The popularity of plastic-alternative water bottles has increased greatly in recent years.  The 2 main suppliers are Sigg (aluminum) and Klean Kanteen (steel).  I decided on the Kleen Kanteen for several reasons as noted below.  Although steel weighs more than aluminum water bottles, this is what I like:

  • Klean Kanteen's shape/size.  It fits in my bike water bottle cage. (yeah, I'm adding weight to my bike but I'm not that fast of a cyclist anyway)
  • The variety of caps that you can purchase.  I have the loop cap for daily use and the sport cap for biking, hiking, etc.
  • Dishwasher safe.  This is a big plus in my book.
  • Wider opening, which allows to add ice cubes for those long hikes or bike rides in the summer.
  • Cost.  for a 27 oz. bottle, Klean Kanteen's are about $5 cheaper than Sigg.

Sigg does have sport bottles and caps (and hipper designs and colors), but being dishwasher safe, a wider opening, and the cheaper cost, I went with Klean Kanteen.  Whether you are partial to Sigg or Klean Kanteen, know that you are making an environmentally-friendly and healthy choice!
