In a reminder of just how dry things are right now with the warm temperatures we have been seeing, there is currently a fire burning in Jefferson County just north of Deckers. Dubbed the Oxyoke Fire after a nearby community, as of 5:00pm this fire has consumed 100 acres.Initially reported at 12:20pm, the fire was on the west side of the South Platte River, along highway 67. Since that time, the blaze has jumped the river and is now on the east side as well. Some areas have been evacuated and there is some concern some hikers could be in the area. At the current time, the Red Cross has setuip the Confier High School as a shelter.
A good portion of east central Colorado is currently under a Red Flag Warning serving to further highlight the fire danger we face int he state.
