Tony Hake’s fascination with weather started as a sixth grader when an F2 tornado struck Thornton about 4 miles from his house and did $10 million damage and injured 42 people. Now he is an amateur meteorologist keeping an eye on the sky.

    The heat returns but cooler weather expected for weekend

    The heat is on! 
    Highs well into the 90's expected.
    Thursday and Friday we see the return of temperatures in the upper 90's.  Thursday will be the hottest day of the week at 97 and Friday will be a bit cooler with a temperature of 94.  This is well above the normal temperature of 88 degrees for these days. 

    The good news is that the weekend cools down as a cold front settles over the region.  Saturday humidities will increase as well the chance for showers as we will see highs in the mid-80's. 

    While today and tomorrow will be hot, they won't hit the records.  The record in Denver for July 10th is 99 degrees set in 1955.  For July 11th, in 1954 Denver saw a thermometer popping 102 degrees. 

    If that doesn't make today's temps seem tolerable, think about Bagdhad, Iraq where temperatures will hit 111 today and 113 degrees tomorrow!
