Maj. Brian Dennis of San Diego and his rescued dog Nubs will be at City Hall in Mission Viejo on Nov. 10 to share and autograph their story, “Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine & a Miracle.”
Last summer, I wrote an article about Dennis and Nubs, and their story is amazing. Click here to read the entire thing. This week, Dennis was interviewed on the "Today" show, and the video of that is below.
Nubs lived in the Iraqi desert and was treated poorly, to say the least. He got his name Nubs due to his ears; they were allegedly cut off by the locals to make the dog meaner. Nubs formed a fast friendship with Dennis, an F-18 fighter pilot with the Border Transition Team patrolling Iraqi borders near Syria in 2007.
Around Christmas that year, Dennis found Nubs near death from a stab wound. The Marine nursed Nubs back to health, and knew there was no way he could ever leave his friend behind.
What followed was an amazing tale of dedication, love and a journey across the freezing desert and then across the globe.
Again, click here to read the full story. Also included are other profiles of dogs befriended by soldiers in war zones and then taken back home to the United States to live loving, safe lives.
Dennis and Nubs will be at city hall at 7 p.m. The event is free, and books are available for purchase. Reservations are required. Contact the Mission Viejo Library at 949-830-7100 x5105 or e-mail stanton@cityofmissionviejo.org.
