At 6:30 p.m., Tamo Bar, in the Seaport Hotel, Boston, is bustling. The ship-shaped structure is an after-work gathering spot for the corporate after-work crowd of the South End. The bar is filled with sounds of chatter, suggesting the need for business men and women to vent. Many flock to the lounge for an end of day martini or beer, still in business suits, before heading home for the evening.

Others are staying in the Seaport Hotel, stopping in for a quick drink before heading out for the day, and then stopping back for a nightcap before turning in. And then there are the European visitors, who enjoy a late night dinner to which Tamo becomes much more than a place for a great cocktail. To Chef Rachel Klein (pictured below): Kudos!

Ah, but it is the cocktails that draw the crowd in the first place. For summer, Tamo has created a summer cocktail list that is sure to create some sizzle throughout the Seaport area. Try the Grape Island martini if you're looking for a good alternative to a cosmo. Personally, I enjoyed this cocktail selection, but not as much as I enjoyed my Zen-gria with Myer's rum. To Dana, the bartender: Namaste. And then there's the Perfect Storm, a reminder of the seaside area, and a specialty drink worth trying out, according to my dining companion for the evening. Beyond the cocktails lies an abyss of menu selections that change with the tides, served until midnight. Tonight, I devour my first lobster roll of the season, globs of meat topped with pickles and with a side of the best sweet potato fries served up in a wire basket, as if to indicate they've been freshly caught. Sue savors every bite of her swordfish sandwich with side salad, and we are silent for a bit.

Just when you think you can't eat another bite, dessert is calling on your sweeth tooth. Made fresh each morning, the cheesecake has a two-bite minimum before you risk exploding from overeating. If you can muster a third bite shared with a partner, even better.

Tamo is named for the Japanese Ash wood of its construct, and when you go, you'll know -- you have to return. Maybe it's the pull of the zen-like atmosphere -- or the call of the sea, but whatever it is, it works.

Sip into summer while getting a taste for the islands at Tamo Bar with the newest additions to their summer cocktail menu: the Harbor Islands Martinis. Pick your favorite, island, fort, or resident phantom and Tamo has a cocktail to bring its flavor to you. The historically inspired cocktails will be served throughout the summer months; all are $12.

Grape Island

Absolut Raspberri, Chambord & Champagne

In her famous letters to John, Abigail Adams wrote about it’s participation in the Revolution. She didn’t mention Absolut at all!

Castle Island

Tanqueray, Midori & Peach Schnapps

A peninsula now but before the Revolution an island occupied by the British, Paul Revere would row out just offshore & listen in on the plans for the siege of Boston.

Nix’s Mate Cosmo

Grey Goose Citron, Triple Sec, Cranberry Juice & Lime Juice

Simply an outcropping of rocks now, it’s said to have been cursed into oblivion by the last buccaneer hung here as a warning that Boston won’t tolerate piracy.

Peddocks Island

Myers Rum, Orange Juice & Grenadine

Historically used for farmland but now gone Hollywood. Look for Peddocks in the upcoming Scorcese thriller, Shutter Island, starring Leonardo Di Caprio.

George’s Island-Fort Warren

Cuervo Gold, Cointreau, Grand Marnier, Pama & Sour Mix

The most visited of our islands, its Fort Warren served as a Civil War prision camp. Alexander Stephens, Vice President of the Confederacy, was briefly a guest.
