On Friday, it was announced that the Pentagon will be offering the H1N1 vaccine to those currently held at Guantanamo Bay’s detention camp.
Spokeswoman Maj. Diana R. Haynie, for Joint Task Force Guantanamo Bay, told CNN: "Detainees at JTF Guantanamo are considered to be at higher risk and therefore they will be offered the H1N1 vaccination.”
She continued: "JTF Guantanamo conducts safe, humane, legal and transparent care and custody of detainees. As such, we must provide detainees the medical care necessary to maintain their health.”
While dangerous Islamic terrorists will soon be protected from the swine flu, the vast majority of American children will remain unprotected from the deadly virus.
According to the Center for Disease Control, 19 U.S. children died last week alone from H1N1, while a total of 74 children across the country have died so far from the outbreak.
The CDC has also announced that the virus is now widespread in 48 states, with 3,000 American were hospitalized with complications from the swine flu last week alone.
The federal government promised us that by now, 220 million doses of the H1N1 vaccine should have been made available. However, as of last week, only 26 million doses had been distributed.
Here in Virginia, a state with a population of 7.8 million, only 489,700 H1N1 vaccines have been shipped to health care providers across the state, leaving more than 7 million Virginians vulnerable to the virus.
We now have a President who is more concerned with the health of terrorists than he is with the welfare of his own countrymen.
What are we to think of a man and a government who leaves millions of American children unprotected from such a dangerous disease?
