To be a Baha'i is to be a follower of Baha'u'llah, whom we believe to be the Promised One, foretold in the religious scriptures of the past. Baha'is believe that Baha'u'llah was the most recent messenger from God, whose teachings were revealed for the spiritual and social development of humanity at this particular moment in history. The celebration of His birth - beginning the evening of Nov. 11 through the day of Nov. 12 - constitutes one of nine holy days, during which work and schooling are suspended and appropriate gatherings are held.
