In the last year and a half, several new breweries have opened in Seattle. The most recent addition is Big Al Brewing, whose beers started flowing in White Center a few weeks ago. Any day now, I expect we'll be hearing about an opening date for Naked City Brewing in Greenwood. This Saturday, one of the other newcomers, Laughing Buddha Brewing, is celebrating the expansion of their brewing space in South Park by throwing a mini beerfest featuring the beer of a small group of new Seattle breweries.
Of the four breweries at the event (Laughing Buddha, Baron, Schooner Exact and Two Beers), Baron is the veteran. They've been around since 2003 but have been included since they're a very close neighbor of Laughing Buddha. Here's what you can look forward to drinking:
Laughing Buddha will be pouring their Dragon King Lager, Pandan Brown Ale, Ginger Pale Ale and Mango Weizen. There's also a chance that they'll preview their fall beer, the Purple Yam Porter, a 7% porter that the brewery describes as "smooth and creamy, with a subtle candied yam and vanilla bean finish."
Baron will undoubtedly offer up a selection of their German-style beers. I wasn't able to find out what will be on tap, but there's a chance you'll see one of the Grimm Brothers series of beers. The most recent release was the Rumpelstiltskin Rauch Doppelbock, a 9.5% smoky malty monster of a beer.
Schooner Exact will be serving their 3-Grid IPA, Regrade Pale Ale and Gallant Maiden Hefeweizen. I had the Regrade recently and it's tasting better than ever, with a lot of hoppiness packed into a light-bodied, drinkable pale ale.
Two Beers will be pouring their 20:20 Blonde Ale, Immersion Amber and a small amount of their Echo IPA. I believe this is the public's first crack at the IPA, which will make its official debut at Latona Pub sometime in the near future.
The event takes place from 3-7 pm on Saturday at Laughing Buddha in South Park. Admission, which gets you 8 sampling tokens, is $13 in advance and $15 at the door. Space is somewhat limited, so if you're interested you might want to pre-register.
