Seattle Beer Examiner
Chris Devlin moved to Seattle from San Francisco in 2005. After a year of whining about the weather, he discovered the city's beer community. He's been drinking and blogging about it ever since. Some say he's obsessed with beer. He did try 375 beers in 2007 and spends all his vacation time on beer travels. You can find more of his writing at The Beer Retard.

3rd Annual PNA Summer Beer Taste

Even though the summer's big beer festivals are behind us, there are still a few smaller events coming up. One is this Saturday's 3rd Annual Phinney Neighborhood Association Summer Beer Taste. The PNA, a non-profit community organization, has had great success for twenty years with their Winter Beer Taste, so they added the Summer Beer Taste in 2006.

While I've never been to the Summer Taste, I did attend the Winter one last year and had a good time despite the fact that I came alone. Most of the attendees are from the neighborhood, which makes the atmosphere less like a beer fest and more like a community gathering. It was crowded inside the PNA Center, but the summer event has been nicknamed Shakesbeer in the Parking Lot, which indicates that it'll be held outside.

All nineteen breweries who will be there are from Washington except three, Deschutes from Oregon, Lagunitas from California and Alaskan from Juneau.  Admission (which gives you 10 samples) is $22 for PNA members or $27 for non-members. There's also a $10 price for non-drinkers, who can enjoy non-alcoholic beverages, snacks and live music while everyone else is reveling in the hops and barley. The event runs from 4-7 pm.
