All across the Internet, people are fascinated by the story of the "Oprah Chimp Woman," whose real name is Charla Nash. Nash was horribly disfigured after she was attacked by a 200 pound chimpanzee on February 16th. Her injuries were described as "catastrophic"--Nash lost her hands, nose, upper and lower lips, eyelids and the bony structures in her mid-face in the attack.
On Wednesday's 'Oprah' show, the lady known as the "Chimp Woman" humanized herself to a surprised viewing audience by lifting the veil that covers her visage, revealing what her face looks like in its current state.
Doctors were able to reattach her one of her thumbs, and Oprah shook it at the conclusion of the interview. When Oprah asked Nash what she would say to people who saw her face didn't know how to react, Nash replied, "I'm the same person I've always been. I just look different. You know, and there's things that happen in life that, you know, you can't change it. You know, it's a tragedy."
