The definition of warrior: A person who shows or has shown great vigor, courage, or aggressiveness, as in politics or athletics or waging war.

Warriors that Americans Love

We call them wife, friend, grandma, mom, daughter, aunt and sister. Without them we would not literally be the life force that we are as United States citizens and neither would our great nation’s military be as technically and tactically proficient as it is internationally known and revered to be.

As our nation pays tribute and homage to the American veteran, both present and past, today on Veterans Day, it is imperative for Americans to send a special “shout out” and a very special “thanks” to the American women warrior, both present and past that have served our country with great distinction and honor.

In addition to the women warriors that have worn the uniform of the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, Americans from every state, and from every city and town, should honor the women warriors who tirelessly and faithfully serve our nation’s police departments, fire departments and our hospitals and clinics. Let us not forget the doctors and nurses that heal our sick and wounded. Furthermore, Americans would be remiss not to include the women paramedics that are always among the first responders to health emergencies, emergencies that require special life saving and communicative skills that can make the difference between a person living or dieing.

If you include the woman warrior that may have not worn a nation’s uniform but nevertheless was a warrior in the sense of fighting injustice and adversity with little more than a strong voice, nerves of steel and a deep faith in God, then America has an obligation to also give these very special Americans a special thanks for their service to our country and our humanity.

Warriors from past to Present

There are many American heroines to honor past and present. From legendary Revolutionary War heroine Margaret Corbin, who fought side by side with American soldiers in her husband’s artillery unit during the British attack on Fort Washington, to the Underground Railroad engineer, Harriet Tubman who fearlessly led hundreds of runaway slaves to freedom in northern states and Canada before and during the American Civil War, to Killeen, Texas Police Sergeant Kimberly Munley who without thought to her own life and gunshot wounds, was able to stop Major Malik Hasan from killing more innocent victims at Fort Hood’s Soldier’s Readiness Center by accurately engaging him with her weapon.

Let us not forget American heroine, Specialist Shoshana Johnson, an Army cook and America's first female POW in the Iraqi conflict. Additionally, we honor Privates First Class Jessica Lynch and Lori Piestewa who also became American POWs during the same war.

As time progresses and individual heroic deeds come to light, there will be scores of women warriors who have recently served in Iraq and Afghanistan that Americans will come to know and honor.

As a tribute to women warriors that you know, the Examiner.Com would like for you to honor them by adding their name and profession to this article’s comments block which we will in recognition of today being Veterans Day, re-name “Our heroes Roll Call”. I begin my own personal entry in the heroes’ roll call by adding the name of my friend and woman warrior, Sergeant First Class Lydia Ruff; professional soldier, wife and mother. Thank you for honorably serving our country SFC Ruff, I and the rest of America honors you. Happy Veterans Day.

Until next time Louisianans, Good Day, God Bless and Good Fishing.
