This afternoon as I walked up Union Park Street past the Michelle Willey boutique, I couldn't help but notice the current exhibition. There on the wall near the window were a series of silk-screened prints by Somerville artist Chris Speakman. The theme - baseball.

Chris has created hand made limited-edition, signed and dated prints inspired by the various war-like rivalries around sports, as well as propaganda art from the 1940's. His goal is to recruit fans to support their favorite team.

In addition to hand made limited-edition silk screen prints, Chris also offers player autographed prints (Jason Varitek and Jon Lester) and baseball-themed posters. The autographed screen prints are authenticated by Major League Baseball (MLB) with a serial numbered hologram and include an offical certificate of authenticity.

The Red Sox are not the only team depicted by Speakman. He has also created screen prints commemorating the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers, St Louis Cardinals and the Tampa Bay Rays. Chris has also honored Red Sox fans with a series of special edition prints commemorating Red Sox Nation. To see these color-rich screen prints in person, head over to the Michelle Willey boutique at 8 Union Park Street in the South End. The exhibit runs through May 24th. You can meet Chris at the artist reception Friday, April 10, 6 - 8 PM and in May at the SOWA Art Walk.
