While the Boston Marathon won't be run until Monday April 20, 2009, road closings will start to appear on Saturday April 18, 2009 to accomodate several pre-marathon events. So here's what you should know if you're planning to be in the Back Bay on marathon weekend.
On Saturday April 18, 2009 Boylston Street from Exeter to Claredon will be closed to all vehicles from 10 AM to 3PM. This is to accomodate the Club 113 Relay Challenge. Then on April 19, 2009 the Boston Atheletic Association's (B.A.A.) 5k will be run. The race starts at 8AM. The race course covers these streets: Boylston, Tremont, Park, Beacon, Arlington, Commonwealth, Berkeley, Claredon, Hereford. The finish line is on Boylston Street. These streets will only be closed as necessary.
Also on Sunday is the Invitational Mile. This is a 3 lap course run by male and female atheletes as well as top local high school milers. They will compete in a series of 4 races. The course starts at Boylston and Exeter, and finishes at the Boston Marathon finish line. Start times are:

Beacon Street - from the Brookline Town Line to Commonwealth Avenue
Berkeley Street - from Columbus Avenue to Newbury Street
Boylston Street - from Massachusetts Avenue to Arlington Street
Commonwealth Avenue - from Beacon Street to Gloucester Street
Clarendon Street - from Commonwealth Avenue to Stuart Street
Dalton Street - from Belvidere Street to Boylston Street
Dartmouth Street - from Stuart Street to Newbury Street; from Columbus Avenue to Stuart Street (northbound)
Exeter Street - from Commonwealth Avenue to Huntington Avenue
Fairfield Street - from Boylston Street to Newbury Street
Gloucester Street - from Commonwealth Avenue to Boylston Street
Hereford Street - from Commonwealth Avenue to Boylston Street
Kenmore Street - from Newbury Street to Commonwealth Avenue
Kenmore Square - from Beacon Street to Commonwealth Avenue (inbound)
Newbury Street - from Fairfield Street to Massachusetts Avenue
St. James Avenue -from Arlington Street to Dartmouth Street
Stuart Street - from Dartmouth Street to Arlington Street
Trinity Place - from Saint James Avenue to Mass Turnpike On-Ramp
Providence Street - from Arlington Street to Berkeley Street
Public Alley #440 - from Exeter Street to Dartmouth Street
In addition to being closed to vehicles, many of these streets as well as others in the area will have restricted or no parking at all throughout the week prior to the race.
