Just in time for Halloween, the magic of Harry Potter arrives in Boston. Harry Potter The Exhibition, first seen in Chicago, opened in Boston this past Sunday at the Museum of Science. Although a different type of exhibit for the Museum of Science, the focus is on education and inspiration both of which are important to the world of science.
On Thursday October 22, 2009 Matthew Lewis aka Neville Longbottom arrived at the museum to present Neville Longbottom's wand for inclusion in the exhibition. Later on at a press round table, Matthew commented that going through the exhibit took him back to when he was eleven and he walked onto the set of the Great Hall for the first time.
The exhibit begins by giving you a turn under the sorting hat. Do you fancy yourself a member of Gryffindor, or maybe Ravenclaw? See what house the sorting hat assigns you to. Other interactive parts of the exhibit include pulling on mandrakes, tossing quaffles through hoops and sitting in Hagrid's favorite chair. Other sets included in the exhibit are the Gryffindor Common Room, Classrooms, the Forbidden Forest and the Great Hall. The Exhibition offers fans the opportunity to experience the craftsmenship of more than 200 authentic costumes and props from the Harry Potter films.

To really appreciate the work that goes into creating the props and costumes you'll want to tour the exhibit with the audio recording available at the entrance of The Exhibition. Through the recording you will learn the challenges of creating a crystal ball that can roll down a staircase without breaking as well as a Triwizard Cup that's light enough to be tossed around and also doesn't break when dropped. You''ll hear designers discuss their inspiration for specific props and costumes. Must see articfacts include Buckbeak the Hippogriff, Fawkes™ - Albus Dumbledore's phoenix, The Sorcerer's Stone™.
