November 17, 2009 – Dancing with the Stars is performed live, right?
Well, mostly.
Once the audience gets to their seats, the entire cast and crew take their places and the celebrities dance their hearts out to be judged by the three-member panel as well as fans at home. The show, full of show-stopping performances, is live for East Coast viewers, as well as for those watching in the central time zone (CST).
However, it doesn’t matter where you live if what you are expecting is live entertainment. In fact, the majority of the popular recording artists singing on the popular show are pre-taped long before the real, live dancing begins.
For example, tonight’s Dancing with the Stars Results show (November 17) featured three major performances -- but only one was performed before the live audience: The Bee Gees.
What about the other two musical guests?
Alicia Keys was a taped at least a day or so before tonight’s airing, and Leona Lewis was taped prior to the start of this evening's show. When asked why Lewis wasn’t live, a Dancing with the Stars staff member replied to the audience that the star wasn’t a professional and so there was the chance she would vocalize off key if so tried to perform live. With that excuse, the singer wanted to have an opportunity for a redo if needed.
When a viewer sits at home and watches Dancing with the Stars, they should know that often only the dancing is live. But, that is quite enough as we really care most about the value of the dance. On the same token, as hard as the performers pitch their albums, the least they could do is perform live like the dancers do, since, after all, that is what's implied.
