Must do list in Kennebunkport, Maine during peak leaf-peeping this weekend
A couple of weeks ago, I was in Kennebunkport where I stayed at the Nonantum Resort on Ocean Drive. They close for the season on December 15th, but until then, every room is an absolute steal at only $99.00 per night (including a buffet breakfast). The next few days are peak leaf-peeping in southern, Maine. If you’re within driving range to “Downeast,” it’s well worth the drive. Or fly into Portland, which is about a 40-minute drive to the Kennebunks.
IF YOU GO: MUST-DO LIST
Kennebunk is home to
Old Vines, the first-ever traditional European Wine Bar in Maine. Located on Port Road, it’s just a hop, skip and a jump from Dock Square in Kennebunkport.
The 36-seat wine bar is located in a renovated, rustic barn and offers variety of wines and hand-crafted beers. Several featured reds and whites by the glass or bottle. Old Vines also offers simple snacks, salads, quiche and panini.
The most delicious lobster roll I had in Kennebunkport was at
Alisson’s Restaurant at 11 Dock Square. Their
oversized lobster rolls are scrumptious (16.99) For a lobster roll “to go,” Port Lobster is a 5-minute walk from Nonantum ($10.00). Walk back to Nonantum, sit outside on an Adirondack chair overlooking the Kennebunk River.

Eat where the locals eat at the Ramp Bar & Grill in Cape Porpoise. Begin with cocktails on the deck and enjoy the beautiful view. Bring your zoom lens and take classic Maine shots of Cape Porpoise Light House.

Drive or bike over to Kennebunk Beach and take a stroll along Mother’s Beach, Middle Beach and Gooch’s Beach. (Nonantum provides bicycles for guests).
