Hogs for Dogs ready to roll tomorrow

Necessity is the mother of invention.  Politics makes strange bedfellows.  Birds of a feather flock together.

But hogs for dogs?  Yep, it's as natural a fit as any other cliche you could imagine, and it's time for Hogs for Dogs this year.

Tomorrow, the Gwinnett Humane Society's 9th Annual Hogs for Dogs takes place.  Online registration is open until 8pm tonight, and last-minute sign ups will be taken tomorrow morning from 9 to 10:30 at Stone Mountain Harley Davidson.  Grand Marshal Rhubarb Jones is once again at the head of the Harley line, doing what he loves to do - ride his Harley, raise money for charity, and press the flesh. 

Rhubarb Jones is a well-known and well-loved retired radio personality who now teaches communications at Kennesaw State University.  He could have easily walked away from the charities he helped support over the years, but that wouldn't be Rhubarb's style.  He continues to be involved in his charity golf tournament, the March Across Georgia and Hogs for Dogs.. 

Saturday's weather forecast couldn't be better for a 50-mile ride around Gwinnett County on a motorcycle.  And just because the name of the event is Hogs for Dogs, that doesn't mean you have to ride a Harley - all motorcycles are welcome.  Gwinnett Sheriff's Department will be along, ensuring a safe and enjoyable ride.

The cost to be part of the ride is just $25, and all proceeds benefit the Gwinnett Humane Society.  For that $25 the rider gets an official Hogs for Dogs t-shirt and five Rider Raffle tickets for those who register on-line, and for those who register at the event, they'll get the t-shirt and one Rider Raffle ticket.  Taking someone on your bike with you?  Passengers are $10, and they get a t-shirt and raffle ticket, too. 

The day is much more than "just" the ride, so stop by Stone Mountain Harley-Davidson for the before- and after-ride fun at the Hogs for Dogs festival, which runs from 9am to 2pm.  There will be food, vendors, dog adoptions, raffles, live music, a silent auction and lots more.
