On this weekend for celebrating all things American, it's only fitting to reach out to help a man whose life changed drastically while in service to our country. He needs a service dog, and you can help make that a reality.
Brian Hall was a combat medic in Georgia's Army National Guard. Nearly four years ago, while deployed in Iraq, he was nearby when an IED exploded. While he considers himself lucky to be alive, the life before the injury was very different than the life he has now.
Brian suffered massive head trauma, and has had many surgeries to try to repair the damage the explosion caused. He's left with double vision, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, loud noises and short term memory loss. He's working hard to regain as much of his former life as possible, with his wife and friends at his side to help.
Here are Brian and Jessica, telling their story on Atlanta's Fox 5:
One thing that would help the Douglas County man be more independent is a service dog, and with the help of friends, he's soon going to have one. A dog has been picked out, and is being trained for him now. The training is being provided at half of the normal $12,000 cost, but $6,000 is still a major stretch for the family.
Enter Douglas CORE, a not-for-profit group associated with Douglas county government. They've set up a fund to pay for T-Rex, the dog being trained for Brian, and are asking that people make $10 donations to the fund. More would be great, but $10 is affordable for nearly everyone, and if 600 people send in that donation, the service dog is paid for.
Donations are tax-deductible. Make the check payable to Douglas CORE, write "Brian Hall" on the memo line and mail it to:
Douglas County Courthouse
700 Hospital Drive
Douglasville, GA 30134
Please share this story with your friends and anyone you know who can help. Brian Hall put his life on the line for this country. Now it's time to show appreciation for his sacrifice and help him live as normal a life as possible.
