Tonight, bad dogs are welcome. Actually, they're even preferred. Tonight is the first of three Atlanta-area auditions for the tv show, "It's Me or the Dog," and since the show is about bad dogs, their indulgent owners, and how to fix that situation, bad dogs will be in high demand this week.
Tonight at Stout Irish Sports Pub, auditions will be held from 7 to 11pm. PAWS Atlanta will be there, helping to keep the audition moving smoothly, and Stout has offered them 10% of the proceeds. That means you can go and be part of the tv show auditions, eat and drink while you're there, and help out an organization that does great work with homeless dogs and cats. You don't even have to have a dog to have fun tonight - just go watch the auditions to see how crazy other people's dogs are!
Friday evening from 6 to 9, another audition will be held at Glamour Paws pet salon on N. Highland Avenue. Stop in with your misbehaving dog, chat with the scouting team for the show and see if you and your little monster have what it takes to be part of a hit show on Animal Planet.
Then Saturday, the third audition opportunity takes place at Piedmont Bark, conveniently located near Piedmont Park. That audition is from 10 to noon.
Here's the good news/bad news: the show is looking for dogs that are causing such an uproar in their homes that most people wouldn't put up with it. If your dog fits that bill, then here's the good news: Victoria Stilwell, star of the show, will take on you, your family and your dog for an episode, working with all of you to fix the situation. It's the ultimate dog/human relationship makeover, and you and your dog could be part of it.
Victoria Stilwell is a native of England, but lives here in Atlanta where she is a supporter of PAWS Atlanta. She learned quickly that trained dogs have a better chance of being adopted, and discovered she had a special talent for working with "unadoptable" dogs, turning them into pleasant companions with just a little bit of work. Her ability to help others "think dog" while training, coupled with her positive training methods, have helped countless dogs into new families instead of into a hole in the ground. In addition to having a couple of hit tv shows ("It's Me or the Dog" and "Greatest American Dog") she's the author of two best-selling dog books, a regular columnist for Dog World, Dogs Today and American Dog magazines and is an ardent supporter of the Waterside Action Group, whose focus is to put an end to puppy mills.
So, if anyone has ever called your dog a "Tazmanian Devil" or a "monster" or maybe even "the most evil creature on the planet" then you've got a double-opportunity. You could be on a television show, and you could be helped by one of the very best trainers on the planet, and certainly on Animal Planet. Sure, you love your dog just as he is, but be honest - wouldn't you love him just a little bit more if he behaved better? Ok, then - pick an audition location, date and time from this article, pack up your pooch, and good luck. May the worst dogs win!
