Cancer in dogs is becoming easier to treat as medical advances in veterinary treatments continue, but early detection is the key to successful treatment.  Atlanta dog owners have several excellent resources to choose from if cancer strikes a furry family member, including two veterinary teaching hospitals within a three-hour drive, and Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Sandy Springs.  Mast cell tumors appear as a lump or bump anywhere on the dog's body, and are fairly common.  In this video, veterinary oncologist Dr. Mona Rosenberg discusses mast cell tumors, their treatment and how dog owners can spot trouble early, leading to a better chance for a cure.

Paying close attention to your dog's skin can help you discover any lumps or bumps early.  Your dog will love the attention, and it just could save his life.
