In the summertime, dog events slow down because of the potentially dangerous heat. Dog adoptions are always in season, though, because the problem of homeless dogs doesn't slow down.
Today, SmallDog Rescue is hosting an adoption event today from noon to four at the Petco in Sandy Springs, and tomorrow the adoption event can be found at the Northpoint PetSmart from 11 to 3. And if you want some cocktails with your furry friend, check out SmallDog Rescue's Puppies on the Patio at the Broadway Grill and Caberet on Roswell Rd. in Sandy Springs.

And Adopt A Greyhound Atlanta is hosting an adoption event at the North Point PetSmart in Alpharetta today from noon to 3:30.
Dogma Dog Care is offering a pet first aid class Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Statistics show that if only one first aid technique was applied at the time of an emergency, one-quarter of severely injured dogs could be saved. Since there's no 911 for dogs, you owe it to your furry friend to know how to care for him in case of an emergency. The cost of the class is only $60 per person. Call 770-436-4346 or email to register. Dogma Dog Care is just off of 285 in Smyrna.
Going to the Braves/Red Sox game tomorrow? Take along some extra $$$ to buy 50/50 raffle tickets as a benefit for Ahimsa House. Ahimsa House's mission is to assist people and their pets to escape domestic violence. Most shelters that reach out to domestic violence victims won't accept the family pets, and very often abusers use those pets to control their victims. Ahimsa House provides safe, confidential haven for all of the victims of domestic violence, two-legged as well as four-legged. Ahimsa House volunteers will be selling the raffle tickets during the first and second innings. The winner gets half of the money collected, so pony up and good luck!
Need vaccines for your dog? PAWS Atlanta is hosting a vaccination clinic tomorrow afternoon from 1-3. Dogs get all shots for just $45, and if your dog has a pet cat, kitty shots are only $40. And for a limited time, PAWS Atlanta is offering two months of heartworm preventative along with each newly adopted dog. There are a lot of wonderful, adoptable dogs at PAWS Atlanta, so check them out online, and then go seem them in person.
Sunday evening from 4 to 8, Atlanta Action Rescue hosts their 5th PBR for Pups at The Standard in Grant Park. AAR takes in many hard-to-adopt dogs, and this is a fun way to help them help the dogs. Adoptable animals will be on hand, so if you or someone you know is thinking of adding a furry friend to the family and you like beer, this could be the event for you!
And finally, every Tuesday throughout the summer, enjoy a Canine Cocktail Hour at Hotel Indigo in midtown. Stop by with your leashed dog between 5 and 8 for a unique way to spend a few hours with your furry friends. There's no cover charge for people or dogs to spend time on one of the best patios on Peachtree, plus there's free refreshments for your dog and a full-service restaurant and bar to quench your thirst and hunger. A dollar from each Indigo martini goes to the upkeep and improvement of Piedmont Park Dog Park.
