The ultimate "fun with Dad and dogs" event is going on in Columbus this weekend. The AFLAC Outdoor Games have returned to Columbus for the second year in a row and feature several dog competitions, along with the lumberjacking contests, a national and local barbeque contest, and an archery challenge. ESPN will be there, filming all of the competitions for airing later this year.
Today, the Stihl Timbersports series includes speed climbing, stock saw and hot saw competitions and the boom run semifinals. The Extreme Power Sports Archery challenge happens all day from 9 to 6 and the field is spectator-friendly. Tons of dog sports are included in the AFLAC Outdoor Games - flyball competition is at 10, 1 and 3, agility competition is at 11, 2 and 4, and the Ultimate Air Dogs splash at 11, 2 and 5. Today is the 2nd Annual Pig Bowl competition, with judging in the professional division for chicken, ribs, pork and brisket. The awards ceremony is at 4.
Tomorrow, the fun continues with all of the same events at the same times, except there are only two dock diving events - the last qualifying event at noon, and then the best dogs splash-off in the finals at 3. Tomorrow's barbeque competition is the amateur division cook-off, pitting the best back-yard chefs against each other on chicken, ribs, pork and brisket. The awards presentation for the amateurs is at 3 tomorrow.
