Siberian Husky learns to teeter - SWC photo

It's a rainy Saturday in Georgia, with a possibility of some snowflakes on Sunday, and yet there are still dog events all around Atlanta.  Grab your umbrella and get set for fun!

Newnan Kennel Club is hosting a sanctioned breed and obedience match that includes Rally obedience classes. It's at the Coweta County Fairgrounds, just off I-85 in Newnan. Registration for competition runs from 9 to 11 and the competition begins at noon. A sanctioned match is like a practice dog show, running by the same rules, but with a little more relaxed atmosphere. It's free to go and watch, and $7 if you want to enter your dog and try your hand at showing.

Sawnee Mountain Kennel Club training classes begin today. If you're in the Cumming area and would like to take obedience, agility, rally or show handling classes, this club offers them all. Call 770-314-0792 for location, times and class availability.

This afternoon from 2 til 4, Marietta Wine Market hosts a charity wine tasting to benefit Meals Fur Pets. This wine tasting commemorates the Judgment of Paris, when a snobby British wine shop owner went to Napa Valley to pit his favorite French wines against the upstart vintages coming from California. His intention was to trumpet the superiority of the French wines, thereby boosting his sales. Just one problem with his plan: the Napa Valley wines won. This real event was made into a movie called "Bottleshock" and that movie will be playing on Karen and Randall's big screen during the tasting. Bentley the English Springer and most valuable employee will be there as will the Meals Fur Pets representatives. Cost of the tasting is a donation to Meals Fur Pets, and in addition to money, you can also bring pet food, treats and essentials.

Adopt-A-Golden Atlanta's next adoption event is Sunday March 1st from noon til 2 at the Buckhead Petsmart. Adoptable, huggable big Goldens will be there, so if you've been thinking of adding a big gold friend to your life, this is a great place to look and learn.
