Thirteenth: Where's this going to end?

July 15, 10:06 PM
by Bob Sherwin, Seattle Sports Examiner

The managers are hamstrung as the teams enter the 13th tied at 3-3. The commissioner is ringing his hands. The 79th All-Star Game is a classic for the fans and viewers that is causing all kinds of consternation in the dugouts and commissioner's box.

THIRTEENTH: David Wright singles off George Sherrill but a sac-bunt by Cristian Guzman is pounced on. Sherrill goes to second and gets Wright. Guzman is among the fastest in the game but stays at first as Sherrill gets out of it. Sherrill can't go much longer - no more than one inning and that's stretching it. The lone AL pitcher remaining, Scott Kazmir threw 104 pitches Sunday. He shouldn't even be used. This is almost the exact same scenario as Milwaukee 2002, the 7-7 tie. The AL needs to score here by new NL pitcher Carlos Marmol looks overpowering. Dan Uggla commits yet another error - his third - most in All-Star history - on a J.D. Drew grounder. What's going on? Michael Young strikes out. Carlos Quintin, who missed being the hero in the 12th, misses again. He strikes out.
