The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools added three names to the Charter Schools Hall of Fame during the 2009 National Charter Schools Conference in Washington DC.
KIPP, Don Shalvey, and Josephine Baker received the well deserved honor of being inducted to the prestigious list.
Josephine Baker, Executive Director of DC Public Charter School Board, is being recognized for her contributions to the charter schools movement as a member of PCSB and advocate.
Baker reminisces about one of the principals she worked for, who clearly made an impression: "If you were effective in what you did, that was the bottom line. Tell me what you want to do, tell me how you want to do it, then show me that it's working. That's kind kind of what the charter concept is."
"She's thought upon highly as being one of the premier minds of the charter school movement. She is not a politician. She's not a business person. She's a teacher," says Jeremy Williams, Business Oversight Manager, PCSB.
Many of today's best practices for charter schools sponsors in the District of Columbia are being credited to Josephine Baker.
Congratulations and thank you for all you do for our kids!
