One America

From Concord to New Orleans. From the Northwest Territory to the American west. From the Philippines to San Juan Hill. From Europe before 1920 to Europe controlled by the Axis powers. From Korea and Vietnam to the Middle East. They have worn everything from the everyday to specialized outfits. They started with crude single shots and now use precision weapons.

They've been shot down by their own government and hailed as heroes. They're doctors and lawyers, tradesmen and farmers. They are all different races, creeds, colors, nationalities, and faiths. They come from places as large as New York City and small hamlets like Majestic, Indiana.

They are our brothers, sisters, moms, dads, sons and daughters. They bleed like us, hurt like us and fight like us. They raise Old Glory in the morning and fold her up every night. They can be a professional or a citizen. But there is something different in them. Something that demands more. Not just for themselves but everyone that lies their head down at night on American soil.

They have been praised and spit on, all the while, holding their head up, for that is the way they are. They have fought for the rights of those that demean their duty and their calling. They have given life and blood for freedoms that we take for granted. They have aided those with freedom and liberty, while at home, groups condemn them.

Why, you may ask. There may be a variety of reasons, but one holds out over all others. The sense of Duty, Honor, Country. There have been those saved from the death camps of Europe, to come and give back to their saviors. There are the ones that feel they have no where left to be. Then there are the ones that bleed red, white and blue. Those that remember, we live in the greatest nation that God ever breathed life into. That remember, that the fields of freedom are watered by the blood of Patriots.

After tragedies like Pearl Harbor and 9/11, we as Americans pulled together for a common cause of solidarity against an enemy. Flags flew, we cried, we hated, we prayed. But as time went by, we went back to and individual mindset. The flags came down and people went on like nothing had occurred. But those that wear the uniform of the US military didn't forget. They faced their enemy, raised the flag, gave a war cry and charged into a hell most will never know.

We clap and cheer at parades, honor the flag as it passes by, but forget the sacrifice that allowed us to do those things. We allow our heroes to sleep on the streets. We've called them baby killers and spat into the face that has seen unknown horrors. The government has killed them at the Capitol and denied their health and mental injuries. The real horror for them must be coming home, and seeing that nobody cares for the sacrifices they made, the brothers they lost, and the part of hem they left behind.

On these days of remembrance, we tend to picnic and drink, but not show up at at the ceremonies. This is a day of reflection for the freedoms we claim, but more for the reflection of those that keep it for us. Why is it, that only a vet says thanks, every time he sees a vet? Or has a tear fall every time they see Old Glory wave? We see the bumper stickers (If you love your freedom...Thank a Vet) but how many see it and say isn't that nice.

On this, Veterans Day, take a trip to a local ceremony, honor the flag, pray in thankfulness that we have the freedoms we have. But most of all, even a quick thanks, lets a veteran know you honor their time and their duty.

And to all veterans of all ages, all branches, and all battles.......THANK YOU..... for your sacrifice that allows my children to live here and call themselves AMERICAN.

THANK YOU
