Big Sur Food & Wine Festival in Big Sur, CA

Fri – Sat, Nov 6th – 7th

This festival is held in a place that is truly magical. Big Sur hosts this Friday and Saturday shindig starting with seminars on both days discussing various topics from Pinot, Bordeaux and Rhone plus cultivation methods. Take a stroll at Post Ranch on Saturday afternoon while sipping wines from Lee Family, Palmina, Clos Solene, Pelerin, Cambiata and Brosseau. A remarkable property if you ever want to see one!

The Grand Public Tasting will be at noon on Saturday at The Lodge at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Public transportation is available, check out their web site for details. Several wine dinners happen on both evenings and the featured event will be The Restaurant at Ventana’s Dinner with Friends where you will also be able to partake in the reception and live auction.

Tasting Along the Wine Road in Northern Sonoma County, CA

Sat & Sun, Nov 7th & 8th

Join in a weekend of food and wine pairings in the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valley. At last count over one million wineries (oh, okay, maybe about hundred plus) are participating in this fun event. Each winery has a recipe being served that is also part of a cookbook that you could have had FREE with an advanced ticket purchase, but the cookbook is not expensive and certainly this entire weekend is better than watching some old football game.

For you traveling this weekend remember those away sites that will make that out of town trip even better. Like, Taste of the Beach in Santa Rosa Beach, FL (think Panhandle); SLO Vintners Harvest Celebration in Avila Beach, CA; Wine & Mushroom Fest up in Mendocino County, CA; Tri-Cities Wine Festival in Kennewick, WA and, of course, the Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival in Carefree, AZ.

So, if you are not one of those last minute persons, start planning now to attend one of these fun wine festivals next weekend, November 13 to the 15th:

San Antonio New World Wine & Food Festival in San Antonio, TX

Tues – Sun, Nov 10th – 15th

Well, after all, it is Texas and nobody does it bigger than Texans, so this festival opens a six day run come this Tuesday. Actually, get a head start and start on Sunday, the 8th, for the Sip, Savor & Shop, their newest event at The Shops at La Cantera. Tuesday is the Burgers & Beer at BIN, followed by the Texas Vintners Cruise at Hotel Valencia on Wednesday. Wine dinners are being held on Thursday and Friday but the Bubbles Event is already sold out on Thursday evening.

The big day is, of course, on Saturday when you can start your day with a wine seminar in the morning, followed by a Winemaker Lunch and during the evening you can partake in the New World Grand Tasting along the river-walk with an array of wines, beverages and food. Close down your action packed weekend with a brunch during the late morning on Sunday, a Totally Tejes in the early afternoon with a Maalox cocktail hour before boarding a plane to head back home and work on Monday.

If you ever wanted to see San Antonio, this is one heck of a way to do it.

Stone Crab, Seafood & Wine Festival at Long Boat Key, FL

This festival was to happen this weekend just outside of Sarasota, FL, but some things sometimes just happen. This would have been the 20th anniversary but the entire festival has been cancelled due to a dispute between the Colony and the condo unit owner on the property, or so it’s been reported. Pity….

Also, take a look at our web site at www.winefestnews.com and look at this weekend for more festivals. More than a dozen festivals are featured from California to France; from Texas to Michigan; Wisconsin to Mexico and Florida to Colorado. That should give you a very wide landscape to pick and choose a great way to spend a nice weekend.

Until next week, we toast to your sybarite ways…..
