Our very own Nashville country music star, Taylor Swift will perform at MTV’s Video Music Awards this year. She is nominated for Best Female Video.
Her performance will take on a surprise twist with a Broadway inspired theme and stage set as she sings in New York City on Sunday Sept. 13, 2009 9 p.m. ET/PT.
According to MTV, Swift will join forces with Cobra Starship, Ne-Yo, Russell Brand and Katy Perry to perform a special version of the classic West Side Story.” tune “Tonight”, for a promotion of the VMA awards’ returning home to the Big Apple.
Recently, The New York Times described Swift as “one of pop’s finest songwriters, country’s foremost pragmatist, and more in touch with her inner life than most adults,” who have surpassed the 10 million milestone for record sales.
It is worth mentioning, her 10 million represents full albums sold and she has over 20 million paid song downloads, more than any artist in country music history.
This songbird has come a long way in a short period of time and to think it all started in 2006, when she was discovered by the legendary Scott Borchetta while performing at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN.
Even more interesting is the fact, this young woman has been writing her songs since she was 14.
According to Big Machine Records (her record label):
“At age 17, Taylor became the youngest person to single-handedly write and sing a number-one country single entirely on her own, and she is the first female solo artist in country music history to write or co-write every song on a platinum-selling debut CD. At 14, she signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music, and in 2006 released her self-titled debut CD on Big Machine Records.”
If your a local or fan of Taylor’s you will be delighted to know you can see her in Nashville: This week you can follow the Taylormania as she will be a part of CMT’s nominee announcements starting Sept. 9-13 for the Country Music Televison’s Top 20. On Sept. 12, 2009 ( Saturday) she will be in concert at the Sommet Center with a sold out show.
Now at 19, our very own country starlet is traveling on tour and having the time of her life while selling out all her US tour called the Fearless Tour.
Taylor opens up about her concert experiences in her Myspace blog when she recently wrote, “I got to play Madison Square Garden a few weeks ago, and all I can say is that it was one of the most memorable nights of my life. I'll never forget how loud that sound was when the crowd would roar. It was just unreal. Plus, Rihanna sent me flowers and I ran up and down the halls announcing it to perfect strangers. There's a lot going on that I'm very excited about.”
Taylormania is here to stay and this young starlet carries the awards, titles and accomplishments gracefully and it will be interesting to see how she grows in the coming years.
