Hometown country music singer Taylor Swift is set to open the 2009 Country Music Awards (CMAs) on Wednesday November 11, 2009 at 8/7c at the Sommet Center, with her alma mater Hendersonville High School(HHS).

It’s funny to imagine that Taylor was just in high school a year ago. Now at  age 19, she is a top music celebrity nationwide writing her own songs, winning big awards (like the CMT and MTV award), breaking records with album and on the music charts, selling out concerts, appearing on major talk shows like The Oprah Winfrey Show and The View,  and making headlines for her MTV award and controversial interruption from rapper Kanye West. Just this past weekend, she hosted SNL with a funny monologue LaLala.

And let us not forget she is in the running for the biggest honor of the CMA’s “Entertainer of the Year Award.” ( I think she has a great chance of winning looking at her tour “Fearless” and all the numbers and records she has broken.) Other nominees for the award are Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Brad Paisely and Keith Urban.

Swift also has nominations for Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year for “Fearless” and Music Video of the Year for “Love Story.”

If she wins this award, it would be the biggest honor  for Taylor’s career and for her hometown Hendersonville. According to the Tennessean, more than 5,000 members of the Country Music Association vote earlier this year to see who will receive the CMA’s highest honor.

The Big Surprise

The big surprise was revealed to the chosen HHS students late last week in lecture hall. One lucky student, soccer player and sophomore Jordan Leath, will be one of 325 students to take part in Taylor’s performance.

Leath said, “We all thought we were getting in trouble, but then we were told we’re going to the CMAs. Everyone’s face just dropped. We’re all so excited.”

In addition, Jamie Jordan, Hendersonville dance coach was informed by producers for the show that Swift requested her dance team to be a part of her hit performance “Fifteen.”

“They said they wanted to create the way she did that song in her concert,” Jordan said. During the song, Swift is surrounded at a piano by an audience.
From there, Jordan agreed she would love the opportunity to be involved with the performance and then when the producers asked for more teens, Jordan suggested HHS principal Joni Worsham to gather the rest of the students.

Principal Worsham says, “We tried to pick students whose schedules would be less impacted,” she said, adding those attending are from the school’s cheerleading squad, band, chorus and dance team. HHS soccer team members will also attend. According to Worsham, teachers and parents will serve as chaperones.”
