Last week’s featured race was the 1991 Banquet 300, and many fans agreed that NASCAR robbed ‘the Rooster’ of a victory.Well, this week, Rudd is involved in the finish to the race of the week, but this time, no one was going to take this win away from him, not even ‘the Intimidator’.
It was the second Winston Cup race held in Loudon, New Hampshire, as the track opened its doors to NASCAR’s top series in 1993.
Dale Earnhardt was the leader when the field took the green flag with eight laps remaining in the 1994 Slick 50 300.Rudd was in the second position, and very few expected him to wrestle the win away from the tenacious Earnhardt, even if he had the faster car.Rusty Wallace was lurking in the third position, and based on the history of the trio of drivers, the driver in the fourth position was sitting pretty.
Some of the best rivalries of the late 1980’s early 1990’s included Earnhardt vs Rudd, Wallace vs Rudd, Earnhardt vs Wallace.However, there was no replay of the collision at North Wilkesboro five years earlier.
Rudd won the race as a driver/owner, but it was Dale Earnhardt and Richard Childress who celebrated the title.In 1994, Earnhardt won his seventh and final Winston Cup championship.
