Many fans remember the 2007 season as the ‘year of Hendrick Motorsports’.  Jimmie Johnson won ten races, Jeff Gordon won six races, Casey Mears and Kyle Busch each won a race.  The Hendrick Motorsports organization won fifty percent of the races in 2007.

Jeff Gordon dominated the regular season, and appeared to be on his way to a fifth championship.  He held a nine-point edge over his teammate heading into the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.  However, Johnson caught fire at the perfect time, winning four consecutive races, all within the final five races of the season.

Matt Kenseth, the 2003 champion, took two fresh tires, and passed Ryan Newman for the lead late in the race.  Johnson, with four fresh tires, was rapidly closing in on the Roush-powered Ford.  It was a thrilling battle between two of the best drivers of our generation.

Johnson went on to win his second consecutive title, while Gordon settled for second.  Kenseth finished the 2007 campaign fourth in the final standings.
