HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Sesame Street!
Wow, forty years old. Two generations of children have grown up with this marvelous creation by Jim Henson, may be rest in peace. ABC news reported yesterday, November 10th, http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/sesame-streets-elmo-big-bird-celebrate-40-year/story?id=8998681 that Sesame Street is, "The longest-running show in children's television history, whose fuzzy, lovable Muppets are now seen in more than 140 countries."
News is almost always negative. Let's use Sesame Street's birthday as a reason to rejoice and look for the good in life. Even when we disagree with others, that is usually a small part of the relationship. Just like a small wine stain on a white shirt, negatives stand out. If we learn to look for the good, we will find plenty of it.
An example is locally, in my tiny town of Bandon, Oregon, I am a bit at odds with the city government. I feel the mayor and one city council member have taken cheap shots at me for disagreeing with a proposed tax.
To stay focused, I remember that there were many, many times that I agreed with the council and city manager. I have praised them, publicly and privately. The manager is a paid position but the city council, including the mayor, are volunteers who give a lot of time to our city. Yes, they get paid a token sum of one hundred dollars per month (two hundred for the mayor). I agree with them more than I disagree. Were some comments from the mayor and a council member hurtful? Yes. But I'll look for the good in things.
So, let's enjoy Sesame Street and congratulate all those lovable characters. Remember they have stayed out of scandal all this time. No dirty pictures of any of them, even Miss Piggy. Tune in and watch a segment. I will.
