A 55-year-old Paramus Catholic High School teacher was arrested Friday for allegedly showing a teenage girl photos of naked women while he worked with her as a private tutor, authorities said.
Mark Sorenson, of Clifton, was arrested by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and Paramus Police Department for showing the photos to the girl in her Paramus home. The girl is not a Paramus Catholic student and the alleged crime did not take place at the school, according to the prosecutor's office.
Sorenson has been suspended from his teaching job and school officials will cooperate with investigators, Newark Archdiocese spokesman Jim Goodness said.
"School administration today has been working to notify parents, faculty and staff about the incident," he said.
Goodness said the Archdiocese was awaiting more information from prosecutors and could not offer more information because of the ongoing investigation.
Judge Donald Venezia set bail at $25,000.00 and ordered Sorenson not to have any contact with the girl. Sorenson is a math teacher at the school, according to the Paramus Catholic faculty directory.
