This was written the last time the Wall Street Collapsed, but I feel it's as appropriate today as then.

When, late President Kennedy said, "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."  I was too young to give an answer but I would like to do it now.

What we do for our country.

We the people are this country. Our work has built her. She is our sweat, blood and tears. Millions have died, throughout our 224 year history defending her, those millions of boys and girls, this nations children never had lives. They made the ultimate sacrifice for this country, they gave their future, their lives. If, this great kindness, the greatest sacrifice one could make, giving up one's life so others could ive in freedom and prosperity isn't enough, then let's go on.

We the people give our youht, our labor, our health, our money and our lives for our country.

We the people bare the future workers and taxpayers of this country.

We the people support this country with our tax dollars. We support the government and all the government sponsored  corporations and on top of all this we are expected to support the World.

However we never see any of the profits, we only get the bills.

What our country does for us

Let's take Social Security, we keep paying and you keep spending it. Had we put this same money into our own savings account most of us would be millionaires upon retirement. Now you tell us may-be there won't be Social Security when we retire and we better start savings for our old age. Socila Security is not a windfall profit it is money we saved for when we retire. We paid it and it must be made available for when we retire.

The bak gives 0.40% interest on our savings,(5% when I originally wrote this), and then charges us 30% in service charges and credit card interest, fees penalties and various other charges on our money. I thought usury was a crime.

Many thought the stock market would assure their retirement years. With a few words from Greespan and some interest rate hikes, that hope came crashing down. Many lost any profit they had gained or even worse al their savings.

We would like to ask Greenspan, what will happen to the American worker when he/she retires at 67 after working for 57 years?

Most hard working American's after putting their children through school and paying for all the taxes on their labor have little svings. Given poor and expensive health care and with no social security, millions will endure mere existence or die in poverty after having lost everything they worked for for 57 years.

We have substandard health care and a serious illness could wipe out everything we worked for throughout our lifetime. We have insurance that refuses us new medical technology even if it could save our lives. While those with no insurance are expected to die and if by some chance we die and are left with anything from our over taxed dollar, we are taxed one more time?

We would like to ask you as an economist, how much we can save by retirement at todays interest rates?

Why is it wrong for the workers, the builders the backbone of this nation to live the last 5 years left to them, after a lifetime of work in ease? Was our labor, our youth, our life not payment enough? Do we have to starve for you because our productivity has been exhausted?

You ridicule the class that supports this nation, because many cannot afford to raise a family on the 7 months of earnings we are left with after 12 months of labor. For you even this isn't enough on what is left of our earnings you tax all our purchases. While we are expected to pay for housing, food, education, medical bills, and save.

Is it a wonder bankruptcy is so high? You want to make bankruptcy harder for us to get, while corporations slip and out of bankruptcy with ease. Meanwhile 90% of Americans are one month away from living on the streets. All it takes is the loss of a job, divorce, illness or the loss of credit. So the next time you pass the 600,000 women, children and men living in the streets, we should remember next month this could be us. What a legacy, when most American's work more than one job.

You raise our taxessaying you need more money to address our issues and we pay more but even with the trillions we pay each year our issues are rarely addressed.

Our cities crumble in this great prosperity and every day tens of thousands lose their jobs.

How many years have you, "honorable gentlemen," debated if, the poorest should receive a 25 cent raise, while a $15,000 raise is immediatly given you so you can maintain your lifestyle.

Our schools crumble and the future of this country goes uneducated.

We the people are told how much we are paid.

We the people are told how much our money is worth, how much interest to pay and how much interest we receive on our earnings.

We the people are told haow much taxes to pay.

We the people are told what we can and can't do.

We the people are toldnhow may years we must work.

All this is enforced by laws we pay for, by you who we support with a lifestyle, great medical and lifetime social security.

This is my answer to President Kennedy.
