From now through February 15th, you and your kids can explore the world of Clifford the Big Red Dog at the Portland Children's Museum.

The exhibit features 12 themed areas focusing on "Clifford's Big Ideas" from the hit book series and the PBS TV series. The themes are: share, play fair, have respect, work together, be responsible, be truthful, be kind, believe in yourself, be a good friend, and help others.

Kids can also meet the nine-foot-tall big red dog for themselves.

For the uninformed, Clifford is huge -- both literally and figuratively. The series was first published by Scholastic in 1963 and author Norman Bridwell has since written dozens of titles in the Clifford series. There are more than 120 million copies of the books in print, in more than 13 languages, and the PBS TV series adaptation is now in its ninth season. Generations of children have grown up loving the adventures of the big red dog and his human companion Emily Elizabeth.

At the Portland Children's Museum, each activity area in the Clifford exhibit lets kids go in-depth with the stories from the beloved book series, and can keep them entertained for hours. Literally. Just ask KPTV's Joe Vithayathil -- who took his two-year-old daughter along this week while he was reporting on the exhibit live for Fox 12's Good Day Oregon.  Vithayathil's segments begin at 5:50am and end three hours later, at approximately 8:50am.

Vithayathil admitted early on, he wasn't sure if bringing his toddler to work was such a brilliant idea. But three hours later, his daughter was still busy entertaining herself with the various activities in the Clifford exhibit at Portland Children's Museum.

"I can't get her to pay attention to something for ten minutes, let alone three hours, so that's a pretty incredible dog," Vithayathil said. "Maybe we need to get a nine-foot red dog of our own."

You can watch Joe's report on the Clifford the Big Red Dog exhibit at PCM online at the Fox 12 website.
