2008's box office hit "Twilight" was filmed in the Portland metro area, bringing loads of attention to Oregon with the movie's popularity. But when production began on the second movie, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," something happened. Filmmakers moved north to Canada and have stayed there for work on the third movie in the franchise, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse."
The movies are based on the four-part best-selling book series by author Stephenie Meyer. And now the rumors are flying that the movie adaptation of the fourth book, Breaking Dawn, may be coming back to Oregon.
According to the website Lainey Gossip, Oregon is actively courting producers back with new tax incentives.
In fact, earlier this year, the Oregon state legislature increased the film tax incentive from $5 million to $7.5 million per year. The lure definitely helped keep production of the TNT show "Leverage" in Portland for its third season. Can it bring the "Twilight Saga" producers back for a fourth movie, too?
Lainey Gossip also mentions that the crew members who worked on both "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" have not been hired for work on a Breaking Dawn movie. Lainey writes:
I’m told that as of press time the intention is to begin production on the fourth and final in September. In Portland.
However, don't get too excited yet. According to the Casting Scoop blog for Lana Veenker casting (the company that worked on "Twilight"), nothing has been made official yet. On the blog, Veenker writes:
For the record, we have not yet been contacted by production about this possibility and have not been hired to provide casting services.
There has also been no official word from the producers at Summit Entertainment, the folks in charge of adapting the Twilight Saga books for the big screen. Actor Robert Pattinson did confirm earlier this year that a Breaking Dawn movie had been given the green light, and that he was signed on to continue playing the role of Edward Cullen. And screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg has said she's been told to start thinking about a Breaking Dawn screenplay, but hasn't confirmed she'll be writing one.
Otherwise, the official people have not said when production on a fourth "Twilight Saga" movie would get underway -- or if it will, in fact, return to Oregon.
