Former DC mayor Marion Barry was arrested over the weekend on the complaint of a woman to whom he had loaned money. I’m no fan of Marion Barry -- Adrian Fenty is everything Barry is not -- but still, this stinks of something, take your pick. In any case, before the end of a holiday weekend filled with the aftermath of Palinism and assorted other societal ills, here is a quite cogent post from the Marion Barry story on Huffington Post, replying to posts about Barry’s supposed “corruption”:
A culture of corruption is when you hoist one lie after another to send people of to a needless war where tens of thousands of people have needlessly dies (sic). A culture of corruption is when a major disaster hits a major city and you do a fly over three days later while your trusted incompetent performs his brown-nosing incompetence. A culture of corruption is when you defy the Geneva Convention on torture to torture people to no good end and lie about it. A culture of corruption is when you lie about hiking the Appalachian Trail on Nude Hiking Week so you can do some indoor nude hiking with your mistress in Argentina. A culture of corruption is when you fan the flames of hatred to encourage the economically and/or emotionally challenged to murder a law-abiding medical doctor in a church. Please come to grips with what true cultural corruption is. Whatever Marion Barry did or didn't do doesn't come close to the aforementioned. " -- morefromLA
