Bank of America thinks it's more important than New York's attorney general; wrong
Bank of America hasn’t noticed that ROAs (regular old Americans) are sick and tired of their shanigans to keep secret the magnitude of their depredations on our economy. Now they want to sue someone willing to give New York State Attorney General Cuomo chapter and verse about the bogus bonuses they have wrung out of the bailout; in English, they want to sue someone who is willing to tell us how they took our money and lined their own pockets with unbelievable bonuses for bad performance, bonuses that would make the Borgias cringe in shame.
Frankly, if I were Cuomo, I’d say, “Bring it on, bad boys. We will defend the person you want to sue, if you still want to sue, after your depositors hear of your latest foray into unconscionable, unethical greedy excess and extortion and take their money out of your bank.”
Here’s how the latest skirmish between Bank of America (which apparently thinks it is a sovereign nation) and Mr. Cuomo went down. According to
ABC News, “Bank of America would not comment on specifics but said in a statement, “Bank of America has continually offered to provide the information the attorney general is seeking if he would agree to an appropriate confidentiality agreement. He has continually declined.”
How generous of them. Are they bargaining for immunity from potential prosecution, or what? Why should the attorney general of a state in which they do business agree to anything other than full disclosure, unless they feel that they have something to hide and need a plea bargain. Last time I looked, they are a public company, and as such must disclose their finances.
And, if Bank of America has nothing to hide, why would they need to bargain at all? On principle? Hard to believe from that unprincipled bunch. Or to protect their depositors? Gee, they’ve done a great job of that so far. Or maybe so they will have time to suck up more taxpayer money in another bailout so they can pay some more bonuses for work badly done? Hmmm….that might be getting closer to the mark. Or maybe because they got away with anything they wanted to until now? That, too, has merit.
Whatever the reasons Bank of America is stonewalling the New York State attorney general and issuing threats to whistleblowers, here’s where the buck stops: the unethical, greedy, self-aggrandizing, nation-destroying machinations of financial institutions in the United States have got to stop. Mr. Cuomo is to be congratulated for his ability to stand up and say No to the banking bullies. And I hope to goodness he sees fit to protect the citizen whistleblower who is being threatened by the 21st century’s answer to Mack the Knife.
