Today, two more tools to get you moving toward a new career for a new year: Toodledo (a productivity tool) and Wordle (to help you evaluate your resume).

Toodledo for productivity

My friend and Professional Organizer and Coach, Lauren Davidson, endorses Toodledo, an online organizing tool.

Lauren says:

This thing can prioritize, it can sort, it can synch with Outlook, Google calendar. You can SEND IT new items using JOTT or even JITTER (and a few more). Get this: you can format the lists to print out such that you can fold them into a little book.

The best part is it’s EASY to use and EASY to maintain. Dare I say, it’s FUN to use? This is THE software I recommend for setting goals and tracking progress. Talk about no more excuses! I haven’t been so excited about a productivity tool since I met and fell in love with my Blackberry Pearl.

That’s pretty high praise from a productivity expert! So, if you’re having a hard time keeping your “to do” list together to get your job search in order, check out www.Toodledo.com. Maybe it’s just what you need to get you started - or to keep you on the right path.

Wordle for resumes

Maybe you're wondering, "When is she going to talk about the resume? Isn't that the most important part of getting a job?"

Not necessarily, but I do want to share a neat tool to help you evaluate your resume. Well-informed job seekers know that companies typically screen resumes using software that searches for key words. That’s why your resume should be targeted/personalized for each job. Re-writing even a little of your resume can help scanning software pick up your document as one to review further!

Wordle is a tool to help you visualize the impact your key words have in your resume. It describes itself as:

“A toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text.”

In other words, Wordle will create a visual representation of your resume, highlighting words that it senses are more important or prominent and downplaying the ones that don’t have much impact. If you are trying to highlight yourself as a highly technical team player and your visual representation doesn’t highlight those topics, you may want to consider re-working things! In any case, this looks like a fun tool to put some spice in your job search.

Happy New Year!
