First Lady Michelle Obama cherishes her female friendships, and this makes her the first First Lady that many of us can ever imagine relating to. There's something about Michele Obama. She's an involved parent, a supportive wife, she works out (I appreciate and admire her arms!), has a career, dresses smart but sensibly (Black and White store), and she makes time for her girlfriends. This is a woman who knows the importance of balance.
The February 25th issue of People Magazine featured a cover story on Michelle Obama's first days in the White House. In case you hadn't heard, Michelle had a Girls Night In! She invited friends to snack on popcorn and watch He's Just Not That Into You. Michelle's friends were interviewed and one thing was very clear, these Chicago friends will sorely miss her.
Michelle's friend of nearly 20 years, Yvonne Davila, was quoted as saying: "Michelle is grounded in the sense that she is a woman just like you and me. She is a working mom. A girlfriend. A wife. She is a regular person and I think that is what makes her special and what resonates with people. People can see themselves in her."
If Michelle Obama is not too busy to make time for her girlfriends, than neither are you. It’s prioritizing. Just like Michelle, we must strive to balance time with our friends, while also taking care of our families and our careers.
