The Baltimore Museum of Art: Special programs encourage children to love and understand art
Art museums can be difficult places for children to visit. Too often, the exhibits are not family friendly and the kids can become bored and restless. It can be a challenge for parents to help their children appreciate art. The Baltimore Art Museum has some help for you!
Meet Raoudi, the official guide to family fun at the Baltimore Museum of Art! Raoudi (pronounced “rowdy”) is Henri Matisse’s friendly schnauzer. It has become his job to help young visitors better appreciate and enjoy art. Meet Raoudi through a BMA online activity called Matisse for Kids. Some of the art activities recommended by Raoudi are described below.
Free Family Sundays. Special hands-on activities are planned for children and families each Sunday at 2 PM. The theme for August is Summer Vacation @ the BMA. A full schedule of Free Family Sunday activities can be found below:
August 2: American Road Trip
August 9: Post Cards from Paris
August 16: Island Adventures
August 23: Passport to Asia
August 30: Family Tour - American Road Trip
Family Fun Packs. Begin each visit to the BMA at the Family Fun Stop located in the main lobby. Pick up a self guided kit designed to encourage children and families to actively explore the museum’s galleries. Three unique kits inspire young visitors to appreciate the art exhibits through song, sketching, and dressing up!
Artful Stories: A BMA Family Tour. Raoudi is ready to set off on an adventure through the Baltimore Museum of Art! New this month, an audio tour will be available specifically geared towards the special interests of families. Raoudi will accompany you on a tour of 20 exciting works of art. As families tour the BMA, sound effects, games, and intriguing characters make art come to life. Narration by Raoudi and stories from students at the Baltimore School for the Arts will add a new dimension to museum visits.
