Production has officially started in Ontario on Disney's Harriet the Spy. The movie, which stars Wizards of Waverly Place Jennifer Stone is based off of the Louise Fitzhugh classic literary series.
Stone stars as Harriet who is determined to become the blogger for her class and is willing to do whatever it takes to win the position. When her father produces a popular movie sequel, Harriet uses her father's resources to exploit the movie's popular star.
In 1996, Nickelodeon Movies brought an adaption of the classic character to screens worldwide. The movie starred Michelle Trachtenberg, Rosie O'Donnell, Eartha Kitt and Vanessa Lee Chester. It was Nickelodeon's first feature film and went on to win the Kid's Choice Award for Rosie O'Donnell as well as a Young Artist Award for Trachtenberg.
9 Story Entertainment will bring the thriller to the Disney Channels worldwide as well as Canada's CBC, MC, and YTV. Harriet the Spy is expected to premiere in 2010.
